EQUALITY CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE’S
Safe and Supportive Schools Resource Center
Our Safe and Supportive Schools Resource Center is a cornerstone of our dedication to fostering inclusive and affirming learning environments for all students, especially LGBTQ+ youth. It serves as a central hub for our Safe and Supportive Schools Report Card, educator resources, and our efforts in combating forced outing and other policies that make schools less safe for LGBTQ+ and all students.
As part of our ongoing commitment, we aim to create safe and supportive schools where every student can thrive academically and emotionally. We encourage educators, students, and advocates alike to explore the resources available on our website and utilize them to promote inclusivity and support within school communities.
Safe and Supportive Schools Report Card
The Safe and Supportive Schools Report Card highlights both successes and challenges faced by California Unified School Districts in implementing LGBTQ+ inclusive programs and policies. Based on data from our biennial Safe and Supportive Schools Survey, it’s a valuable tool for self-evaluation, sharing best practices, and taking concrete actions. Read more.
Educator Resources
Educators lead the charge in creating safe school environments. Curated from diverse organizations, these educator resources aim to empower educators and school staff with essential information and resources to foster a safe and supportive climate, especially for LGBTQ+ youth. Read more.
Forced Outing
Unfortunately, some California School Boards are considering policies that would forcibly out LGBTQ+ students to their parents or guardians without their consent, creating a possible risk for them. Some districts have already passed such policies, prompting legal action from California
Attorney General Rob Bonta. In the meantime, we’re mobilizing against these policies by speaking up, but we need your support! Find ways to be involved.
